Die primêre proses van diereproduksie is die omskakeling van voer na ’n waardevolle eindproduk deur middel van ’n biologiese proses. Hierdie proses moet so produktief en ekonomies moontlik bestuur word. Om hierdie doel te bereik, moet die volle genetiese potensiaal van elke dier ontsluit word deur die verskillende fisiologiese fases van groei en aanpassing, asook gesondheid en voervertering, in ag te neem.
